Take another view on art
For a period of three weeks during Art Basel HK, the dome structure, made out of 5,000 acrylic iridescent discs, was home to nine distinctive paintings, including a Chagall and a Monet.
If architecture can be made for the people and better social interaction, then this temporary dome structure has done that. For a period of three weeks during Art Basel HK, the dome structure, made out of 5,000 acrylic iridescent discs, was home to nine distinctive paintings, including a Chagall and a Monet.
The dome created a social environment were people could meet and greet, or take a closer look at the paintings through the nine telescopes and attracted people from all around HK to the urban mall in the heart of the city.
Drawing inspiration from the Sistine Chapel, where the artwork is high above the viewer, the dome was suspended by fine steel cables and structurally calculated for safety. It appeared to be floating and cast rainbow color shadows on the floor. It became a focal gathering place for families and passers by, where they were able to “Take another view on art”.
